Thanh Khe Book Festival to be organised on larger scale

The Thanh Khe Book Festival 2018 is slated to take place at a library in Da Nang’s Thanh Khe District in October. This year’s event is expected to be on a larger scale than last year’s.

The event will feature a total of over 100 stalls introducing and selling new books released by publishing houses nationwide. Some of the participating stalls will be operated by the city’s General Science Library, local universities, junior colleges and senior high schools.

Highlights of this year’s event will be numerous fascinating sideline activities, including a book-related story telling contest for junior and senior high school pupils across the district, musical shows, and flash mob and dance sports performances.

Most interestingly, visitors to the festival will have the opportunity to meet with renowned domestic poets and writers, and take part in meaningful talk shows about best sellers.

In order to promote the reading culture in the locality, a campaign to appeal for local individuals and organisations to donate books for public book shelves and libraries across the district will be launched by the organisers.

In addition, the organisers will appeal for donations from local businesses to present scholarships to poor studious pupils.

Also at the festival, the city’s General Science Library will display over 100 books showcasing Viet Nam’s sea and islands, and its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. It will donate tables and chairs, computers and books, totalling nearly 100 million VND, to the district’s library.

Recently, the organisers have been actively involved in widely publicising the book festival on websites of the district, local wards, and schools, as well as displaying banners about the event on local main streets.

Special attention has been paid to ensuring traffic safety during the festival in a bid to create an inviting event for visitors, and to help to promote the reading culture amongst local residents.
