Three Indian naval ships—frigate Sahyadri, fleet tanker Shakti and anti-submarine stealth corvette Kamorta—with 900 crew members began a four-day friendly visit


at Đà Nẵng City’s Tiên Sa Port on May 21.

The ships are under the command of Rear Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, flag officer commanding of the Eastern Fleet.

The Indian Naval ship Sahyadri previously paid a friendship visit to the city in 2014.

The visit, which is part of the ongoing operational deployment of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet ships to South East Asia and the North West Pacific region, will include professional interaction between personnel of both navies, official calls and interaction with dignitaries of the Vietnamese Government.

The Indian crew members will have sport exchanges with Đà Nẵng City’s College and Navy Zone 3, tour destinations in Đà Nẵng and Hội An town and conduct joint maritime exercises during the four-day friendly visit.

Việt Nam and India have boosted defence cooperation as a vital component of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

The Indian Navy has had extensive interactions with Việt Nam People’s Navy, particularly in the field of training, repairs, maintenance and logistics support aimed at capacity building.

In 2017, two naval ships INS Satpura and INS Kadmatt paid a visit to Hải Phòng City port.

A farewell ceremony will take place at Tiên Sa Port next Tuesday.

In 2013, 1,200 officers and crew from three vessels of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet also paid a visit to the city ports.

In 2014, Indian Coast Guard Ship Samudra Paheredar made a three-day visit to the city’s port for joint exercises with Việt Nam’s Coast Guard Force.
