Increasing tap water pressure for Ngu Hanh Son and Son Tra districts

On Saturday, the Da Nang Water Supply Joint Stock Company (Dawaco) continued increasing the water supply capacity for the populous districts of Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son which faced severe water shortages several days ago.

Accordingly, gate valves on main water lines in the less affected districts of Hai Chau and Thanh Khe were fully closed in order to raise water supplies to the heavily-hit Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts, especially locations housing many apartment buildings, hotels, and other accommodation establishments.

Thanks to this, at 5.00 am on Saturday, water pressure in most areas in the tourist-packed Son Tra District was only slightly lower than normal.

Residents living on Le Tan Trung Street, Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District, said, tap water supplies resumed at 10.00pm on Friday, and water pressure started to increase gradually on Saturday morning.

As for Ngu Hanh Son District, water pressure in its parts has been restored to normal.

According the Dawaco, between 11.00pm on Friday and 3.00pm on Saturday, a total of 60,000m3 of water was supplied to the districts of Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son, accounting for 30% of the water supply capacity for the whole city.

In particular, focus has been on resuming water supplies to the residential areas of Dai Dia Bao and Vung Thung in Son Tra District and Ngu Hanh Son District –based Tan Tra and Dong Hai sites, which were severely affected by water scarcity.

At Saturday noon, employees from the Dawaco conducted an inspection at the temporary dam project at the mouth of Quang Hue River in Quang Nam Province’s Dai Loc District.

Noticeably, the water level of the Vu Gia River whose tributary flows into the severe salinity-affected Cau Do (Red Bridge) River is now very low, with many of its sections running dry, in the wake of a decrease in water discharges made by the A Vuong and Dak Mi 4 hydropower plants.

In the face of this matter of concern, Dawaco has just reported the city leaders about the possibility of the salinity level increasing again in the coming days.

Meanwhile, local water plants are now operating at maximum capacity in a bid to ensure enough fresh water for the daily lives, and the agricultural and industrial production activities in the city.
