For many years, the University of Da Nang (UDN) has always encouraged its students to conduct their research activities into highly practical products to benefit their community.
Local students and their products at the recent Science and Technology Festival
At the recent Science and Technology Festival held by UDN, many businesses, social organisations and technological experts have expressed their surprise at numerous highly practical products from the students from UDN’s member schools.
The schools include the University of Science and Technology, the University of Technology and Education, the University of Economics, and UDN’s Faculty of Information Technology and Communications.
Amongst highly-appreciated products are a 3D plastic printing machine, a multi-purpose garbage collection machine, On-Street Smart Parking, a Lora application in warning traffic congestion and re-arranging traffic during rush hours, a tourism bike system for smart city, a smart traffic light system based on internet of things (IoT) equipment, and an automatic wind map.
All of student’s products aim at promoting the growth of Da Nang in the future.
A multi-purpose garbage collection machine created by a group of 6 talented students from the Traffic Engineering Faculty of the Da Nang University of Science and Technology is a typical example. The product is able to collect garbage found along beaches and underwater.
Vo Anh Khoa, the group leader, said, during their leisurely strolling along coastal routes, he and his course mates saw piles of trash being washed up on large stretches of the beaches, which blighted the urban landscape. It took lots of time for sanitary workers to clear waste floating on the water surface. This fact, indeed, inspired these young men to come up with the idea of designing a multi-functional garbage collection machine.
The machine can easily move on loose sand terrain thanks to its flexible crawler system. In addition, the machine can also float stably on the water surface, and withstand the impact of rogue waves.
Assoc Prof Ngo Van Duong, Deputy Director of UDN, remarked local students have participated in many science and technology contests and gained numerous outstanding achievements over the past years.
Most recently, UDN in collaboration with the municipal Union of Science and Technology Associations have organised the Science and Technology Festival and the IoT Day.
The purpose is to create a useful playground for students who have strong passion for scientific research and want to learn about new technologies.
In addition, these events provide the opportunity for them to meet businesses and organisations in ad bid to put their scientific research into practice.
