Exciting beach sports activities in Da Nang

As part of the 2025 Beach Tourism Season programme, the SUP – Da Nang Colour Race 2025 attracted more than 100 amateur and professional athletes from many provinces, cities and beach sports clubs nationwide. They competed in the events of 2,000m for men/women, competing with SUP Skatinger and 4,000m freestyle, competing with professional Sup Race.

The athletes demonstrated their ability to race speed, maintain balance and perform techniques when participating in the competition. The contest created a vibrant and colourful sports competition atmosphere.

Aside from the official competition, other experiential activities such as taking photos and checking in with SUP boards brought a rich entertainment space for both locals and tourists.

Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, a resident of Hoa Hai Ward in Ngu Hanh Son District, said “I have been practicing this kind of sports for more than five years. I often explore the city’s beaches with friends in the early morning. Over the past five years, I have participated in all the SUP competitions organised by the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang’s Tourism Beaches. Competing with other athletes brings me joy, fuels my passion, and encourages me to continue with this exciting sport. Thanks to SUP, my health has improved, and I feel cheerful and relaxed. Da Nang has great potential and is doing an excellent job of developing SUP rowing service”.

In addition to the SUP competition, the 2025 Da Nang Open Water Swimming Championship “Across The Summer Waves” took place in an exciting and attractive atmosphere. It had nearly 300 athletes, including many international tourists, participating. The competition featured a 1,000m freestyle swimming event for women (14 to under 40 years old, and over 40 years old) and for men (14 to 29 years old, 30 to 49 years old, and over 50 years old); and the 2,500m and 5,000m events for women (14 to under 40 years old, and over 40 years old), and for men (14 to 29 years old, 30 to 39 years old, 40 to 49 years old, and over 50 years old).

72-year-old Pham Thi Toi from Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District, won the first prize in the 1,000m category for women over 40. She shared that “I am happy to participate in the tournament and to inspire the younger generation. Beaches in Da Nang are beautiful and offer many enjoyable experiences. I hope everyone chooses swimming as a way to practice and compete to improve their health”.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Vu, Head of the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beaches, the SUP – Da Nang Color Race and the Da Nang Open Water Swimming Championship were organized to foster a vibrant sports movement within the community. These events were also part of the programme “The Opening of the Da Nang Beach Tourism Season 2025” aimed at diversifying cultural and sports activities while promoting the image of Da Nang’s beach tourism to both domestic and international visitors.

In addition to these tournaments, beaches in Da Nang are becoming increasingly lively with various water sports performances. Activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, and banana boating attract hundreds of spectators and participants. With the guidance of professional coaches, participants experience the thrill of gliding over the water, conquering speed, and enjoying the invigorating sea breeze.

Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Trong Thao said that beach sports movement in the city has seen significant growth in recent years. Numerous beach sports clubs and teams have been established. These activities diversify tourism products, attracting and retaining visitors to the city. The city is gradually positioning itself as a sports hub for beach activities in the country.

To achieve this goal, the beach sports movement must become more vibrant and appealing, with a wide variety of sports and competition formats. The city plans to organise beach sports championships to encourage participation from athletes, residents, and tourists. Additionally, it will host national and international beach sports tournaments. These events will help promote the development of mass sports in the city, as well as enhance beach tourism and related services.
