The Times, a daily newspaper published in London and one of Britain’s oldest and most influential newspapers, has just announced the list “11 of the most beautiful places in Vietnam in 2026”. Among them are the Son Tra Peninsula and My Son Sanctuary in Da Nang City.

According to The Times, the Son Tra Peninsula is just minutes from Da Nang, Central Vietnam’s most built-up city. This peninsula feels like a remnant of the country before its breakneck urbanisation.

Cloaked in rainforest and ringed by secluded coves, this protected headland rises from the sea, with winding roads climbing to lofty viewpoints, hidden beaches and the towering Lady Buddha.

Son Tra is also one of the last refuges of the endangered red-shanked douc langur, whose vivid colouring, expressive face and improbably elegant limbs have made it an icon of Vietnamese conservation.

Meanwhile, there may be grander archaeological sites in Southeast Asia, but few can match the atmosphere of My Son. In a jungle-clad basin west of Hoi An, My Son is a haunting ensemble of red-brick temple towers, scarred by war yet softened by encroaching foliage.

There still find something new to admire among these ancient ruins, some of which date back to the 4th century.

Arrive when the gates open at 6.30am, before the tour buses and midday heat descend, and you’ll find mist lingering in the valley, birdsong echoing through the forest and the scent of freshly lit incense drifting from the shrines.
