Da Nang, Attapeu bolster bilateral cooperation

Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi hosted a reception in the city on Monday for Deputy Governor of Laos’ Attapeu Province Bounsert Setthirath.

Vice Chairwoman Thi informed that under the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two localities during the 2023 – 2027 period, in 2023 and 2024, Da Nang granted scholarships to 50 officials and students of Attapeu Province to study at the University of Da Nang at the doctoral, graduate and undergraduate levels. Four Da Nang teachers were sent to the province-based Vietnamese Language Centre to teach Vietnamese. The city also received and arranged two officers of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Attapeu Province to intern at the Department of Foreign Affairs of the city for 6 months.

In 2025, the city will continue to offer scholarships to 30 officers and students of the Laotian province; send 2 teachers to work at the Vietnamese Language Centre; and receive and support a delegation of 20 officials from the Department of Information – Culture and Tourism, and the Department of Agriculture – Forestry of Attapeu Province, to exchange and learn experiences in Da Nang, she affirmed.

The city official emphasised that the Party, State and people of Viet Nam in general, and the Party, government and people of Da Nang in particular, will always pay due attention to fostering the special traditional friendship between Viet Nam and Laos, as well as the friendship and effective cooperation between Da Nang and Attapeu Province, in the coming time.

For his part, Mr. Bounsert Setthirath thanked Da Nang for its active support over the past time in building facilities, training human resources, and supporting education. At the same time, he voiced his hope that the two sides will build vocational training centres, as well as more Da Nang businesses will be appealed to seek cooperation and investment opportunities in Attapeu Province in tourism and agriculture.

On the occasion, Vice Chairwoman Thi awarded Certificates of Merit to 3 groups and 2 individuals from Attapeu Province in recognition of their active contributions to building and developing friendly and cooperative relations between Lao localities and Da Nang during the 2018 – 2022 period.

The city provided financial support worth VND 3.6 billion to upgrade the recording studio of the Attapeu Provincial Radio and Television Station, and VND 500 million to carry out social security work in the Lao locality.
