Da Nang Newspaper and Radio, Television Station celebrates 65th anniversary of Da Nang Newspaper’s first issue

The Da Nang Newspaper and Radio, Television Station held a ceremony on Tuesday morning to celebrate 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 – June 21, 2025) and the 65th anniversary of the first issue of the Da Nang Newspaper (1960 – 2025).

In his speech delivered at the ceremony, Secretary of the Party Committee and Editor-in-Chief of the Da Nang Newspaper and Radio, Television Station Doan Xuan Hieu affirmed that over the past 100 years, the city’s press agencies have established and shaped core values and a solid foundation, promoting their role as the essential media agency, the voice of the Party Committee, government and people of Da Nang, and a vital bridge connecting the Party’s will and the people’s hearts, contributing to ensuring the stability and development of the city throughout various periods.

In the context of modern media and the ongoing development of technology, the Da Nang Newspaper and Radio, Television Station, and other press agencies in the region and across the country are facing numerous challenges. To adapt effectively to this changing landscape, it is essential that the merger of press and radio agencies goes beyond simply combining names and structurally adding components. Instead, the goal should be to create an organisation that is truly “streamlined, compact, strong, efficient, and effective”.

To achieve this, immediate action is required to ensure that the processes of working, managing, and operating are cohesive and unified. It is crucial to maximize the advantages of available resources and digital technology, and implement a “converged newsroom” model which involves a well-defined workflow for news input and allows for diverse output across various formats, including written, spoken, visual, and electronic media. Notably, there should be a strong emphasis on digital journalism, data journalism, and multimedia journalism on digital platforms.

With a tradition that has been continued through many generations and a distinct identity that has been strongly shaped after a journey of more than half a century, the Da Nang Newspaper and Radio, Television Station will continue to maintain their pioneering role in information and propaganda work.

In particular, in the digital age, the Da Nang Newspaper and Radio, Television Station will focus on promoting the tradition and spirit of innovation, creativity, and constant improvement of spoken, visual, and written newspapers in spreading press products on applications, online platforms, and social networks to bring the image of Da Nang closer to domestic and international audiences.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Standing Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Dinh Vinh emphasised that the press served as a bridge between the Party, the government, and the people. It acted as a powerful force in the ideological and cultural front, providing a reliable forum that accurately reflects social life. The press accompanied the country through every stage of its development. The contributions of journalists and the press were consistently acknowledged and appreciated by the Party, the State, and the public.

The Da Nang Newspaper has an impressive history that began with its first issue in 1960, originally named Giai Phong Quang Nam-Da Nang. Over the past 65 years, the newspaper has experienced significant growth and undergone various name changes. Throughout all its stages, the Da Nang Newspaper has remained committed to its political stance, steadfastly upholding its principles and objectives. It continues to serve as the voice of the Party Committee, the government, and the people of Da Nang.

With many generations of dedicated, dynamic and responsible journalists, the Da Nang Newspaper has constantly innovated its content and form, expanded its platform to reach readers, built a modern media ecosystem, and met the increasing demands of readers and the political tasks of the locality.

The newspaper has promptly, vividly and truthfully reflected the socio-economic situation, national defence and security, Party building, and the political system. It serves as a vital channel for communicating the Party’s policies and the State’s laws. Additionally, it is a forum for people to share their thoughts and aspirations, highlight shortcomings, and collaborate in building a transparent and service-oriented government.

Deputy Secretary Vinh acknowledged, commended and highly appreciated the great efforts and contributions of the Da Nang Newspaper over the past 65 years, especially during the period when the city promoted innovation in growth models, digital transformation, thereby building a livable and environmental city, and a city of startups and innovation.

He expressed his belief that, with its rich tradition and a spirit of innovation and determination, the Da Nang Newspaper and Radio, Television Station will continue to grow and establish itself as a model press agency for the city. This agency will make significant contributions to transforming Da Nang into a major socio-economic centre of the country and the region.
