New houses for people with Hansen’s disease

In accordance with the central government’s social program for Hansen’s disease (leprosy) patients, 64 households from Da Nang’s Hoa Van Fishing Village, also known as “Hansen’s Oasis”, were given new houses in Lien Chieu District. Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Ba Thanh visited them yesterday.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nhieu said that since moving to their new home, her family has been given much assistance by the local authorities and received free health checks-up and medicine.

Party Secretary Thanh listened to the people’s pressing concerns and suggestions. He said that the city will grant an additional 200,000 VND per month to each of the patients to help them with their living expenses. He promised that the city authorities will pay more attention to them and their families.
