Surprises promised at DIFF 2018

The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2018 is expected to be more fascinating than last year in terms of the main stage, arts performances and the application of modern special effects to meet the high expectations of locals and visitors.

The revelation was made by Vietnamese meritorious artiste Do Thanh Hai, the festival’s new General Director during his recent interview with DA NANG Newspaper.

A total of 8 teams will compete at this year’s event, namely Poland, France, the US, Italy, Hong Kong (China), Sweden, Portugal, and Da Nang-Viet Nam.

General Director Hai remarked that, entitled ‘Legends of the Bridges’, the festival will feature fireworks performances based on the image of bridges that participating teams bring to the event.

The theme aims to regale spectators with interesting stories of 8 participating teams via the city’s legendary bridges noted for their historical, cultural and architectural significance.

Accordingly, each team that takes part in the DIFF 2018 also symbolises an arch of the bridge of friendship, peace and connection of all the 5 continents heading towards a better future.

The participating teams will compete in 5 nights on the Han River over a 2-month-long period.

The 5 performance nights will be entitled ‘Love’, ‘Time’, ‘Happiness’, ‘Desires’ and ‘Friendship’, respectively.

The host Da Nang-Viet Nam and Poland will perform on the opening night on 30 April, whilst the teams from France and the US will do the 2nd night on 26 May.

Teams from Italy and Hong Kong will spark the 3rd night performance on 2 June, whilst those from Sweden and Portugal will stage the 4th night performance on 9 June.

The 2 most outstanding teams will compete in the final rounds on the closing night on 30 June.

General Director Hai noted one of the biggest challenges facing him is how to realise his innovative ideas and convey the meaningful messages of DIFF, a landmark activity advertising the beauty of the land and people of Da Nang, and those of Viet Nam as a whole. However, this renowned artiste happily said this task is really challenging yet interesting, and it inspires him to make the best possible preparations for this event.

He said he feels very pleased to have a chance to work with the nation’s leading experts in stage design, and sound and lighting systems, to prepare for this most-expected international level event this year.

In particular, the stage of every single firework display night is to be breathed new life and creativity, and further awakened with vibrant and peculiar arts performances joined by a large number of domestic famous singers and dancers, especially such top stars as Hong Nhung, Tung Duong and Ho Quynh Huong.

Meanwhile, performance nights will be hosted by such professional Master of Ceremonies (MCs) as supermodel Binh Minh and editors Thuy Linh and Duc Bao.

This year, a series of exciting events will also bring locals and visitors meaningful experiences and the most sensational moments.

One of the most vibrant and expected event on the sidelines of the festival is definitely the Street Carnival.

Unique model carts, upbeat arts displays by both Vietnamese and foreign street artists who represent their own participating countries and territories, will be very attractive to all visitors to the street, join the giant crowd cheering out there and revel in a festive and ragingly robust ambience.
